Global climate change causes frequent fires around Cape Town (1). This combined with the rapid growth of invasive alien species negatively impacts the growth of indigenous species. Many of the people who spend time on Rondebosch Common contribute to the removal of invasive species (2) and the replanting of local endemics especially when there has been a fire (3). Allowing indigenous species to thrive on Rondebosch common helps the ecosystem to grow and make it a beautiful space for all organisms to flourish, including humans.
