Typhoons are a class of the tropical storms known as cyclones that are geographically developing in the northwest Pacific Ocean around the Philippine, Japan, and China. Tropical storms are one of the most powerful and destructive natural phenomena on earth and one of the most devastating natural disasters in the world as the damage is mediated by extreme wind speed and flooding from heavy amounts of rainfall over a relatively short period of time. Typhoon formation requires warm sea surface temperature which creates the pressure difference between the warm air near the surface and the cold air near the top of the cloud, creating the pressure difference. As the energy available to typhoon formation by warmer sea surface temperature increases from global climate changes due to increase in carbon footprint, the intensity and the frequency of the typhoon has strongly elevated to cause significantly more property damages as well as casualties. Urbanization, deforestation, and increased fossil fuel consumption has intensified the greenhouse effect which contributes to global warming. Formulation of mitigation plans for the dangerous climate changes would be necessary to provide extensive effort on reducing the typhoon intensity to protect the properties and the lives of people in the coastal region for the future.
